Questions to ask that lead to Innovation

1. What do all our competitors do? How and why did the industry write the rules? Has anyone broken these rules, and if so, what happened?

2. Which customer segment do we want to target?

3. What is important to this customer segment? What is the decision tree for a current purchase?

4. Can we add these attributes to the product ourselves? Are there potential partners that can add value?

5. What resources will be necessary to make this successful?

6. Do we have a champion, and is there an environment for the champion to win even if the project doesn't?

7. Who will sell the product? Is it channel specific or exclusive?

8. What group will check ‘cause-and-effect’ strategy decisions along the way?

9. What kind of timetable "runway" will the project have before pressure to perform begins to impact strategic decisions?

10. How will the success of this venture be measured?
